Kota makes a great base for exploring the Hadoti region. Within a couple of hours you can reach hilltop forts, painted palaces, ancient step-wells and one of India's most dramatic river canyons. Here are our favourite day trips from Kota — pick one, or combine a couple into a longer tour package.
Where we can take you
Bundi — forts & step-wells
A blue-walled town below Taragarh Fort, famous for the exquisite murals of Bundi Palace and the ornate Raniji ki Baori step-well. One of Rajasthan's most atmospheric and least crowded heritage towns.
Garadia Mahadev — the Chambal canyon
A jaw-dropping viewpoint where the Chambal loops through a deep gorge far below — Rajasthan's own mini Grand Canyon, with a Shiva temple on the cliff edge. Best in the soft morning or evening light.
Bhainsrorgarh — the riverside fort
A striking fort set on a rocky spur above the Chambal and Bamani rivers, often called one of Rajasthan's most beautifully situated forts. A quiet, scenic escape.
Jhalawar — Gagron Fort & Jhalrapatan
Home to the UNESCO-listed Gagron Fort, a rare water-fort surrounded on three sides by rivers, plus the temple town of Jhalrapatan. A longer but rewarding day for history lovers.
